The history of cosmetics in TCM is as long as the history of TCM itself.

In TCM, 'observing the figure and colour of the face' is an extremely important part of diagnostic process. Therefore, restoring the complexion of face right is a part of treatment. On the other hand, healing the internal organs is a part of cosmetic treatment.

So cosmetic treatment and regular treatment are actually one thing.

Cosmetic acupuncture in western society emerged around the early 1980s, and facial acupuncture became popular in Korea, Japan, and China in the mid 2000s, much research has since been conducted on the topic.
